The course introduces students to the concept and importance of natural resource and environmental conservation. It examines the major constraints to natural resources management and some of the solutions. The course also introduces students to various approaches to the formulation of resource management plans. Specifically the course deals with aspects of natural resource governance; integrated natural resources management, establishment of protected areas, biodiversity conservation, property rights and regimes, and policies on natural resources management. Understand the major environmental and natural hazards which can occur to a given society.
Gain an in-depth understanding of sources of greenhouse gases and their effects on climate change.
Gain an in-depth understanding of the processes that cause disasters as well as their impact on human health and livelihoods.
Be prepared for managing and mitigating the effects of natural and human-made disasters.
